iYA’s Tokyo Is Quietly Captivating

“If you go, I don’t know, no I don’t” is the opening line by male vocalist Nkhosiyabongwa Dlamini. I’m into the intro; it acts as a small glimpse into how features with iYA could sound like.

There’s a tempo to this song that iYA maintains which I am a fan of  as it matches with her voice and lyrical expression. This release is part of her album titled I Feel Deeply, released in 2025. I watched the visualizer which gave me a whole new perspective and appreciation for the song  in its entirety (lyrics, production and video).

The lyric video was shot at Bahle Gallery, great venue aesthetically. The section where they shot the video reminded me of Japan, and that’s the moment I realized how she had intentional she put all those intricate details together to make everything coherent.

The beat is romantic and distinct. Her voice is a soft layer that glides over the production and there’s this sense of control in how she delivers. iYA’s loyal fans definitely appreciate this song and there’s a level of growth and maturity I picked up from this production. Towards the end of the song, Nkhosiyabongwa comes back and  his vocals bringing a certain balance to this ballad.

Tokyo is produced by Ndumiso Manana, part of her I Feel Deeply album released under Mosoul Records.
